NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Menlo Women's Golf had freshman
Kim Penzold leading the entire field for multiple holes on the final day of the Pacific West Conference Championship before finishing as runner-up to the overall leader to pace her team in seventh place on Wednesday out at Aliante Golf Club.
Oaks Highlights
-Penzold took second out of the 40-golfer field, ending just two strokes from the leader

Julia Torrez combined for 15 birdies in the tournament, both finishing with their best three-round scores of the season
Title Nearly Goes To Penzold In Dramatic Back Nine
The first nine holes saw Penzold go back and forth with the tournament leader at the day's start, Westmont's Hannah Carmara, before a momentum shift came at Hole 10. There, Penzold elevated into sole possession of the top spot by two strokes with her birdie and Camara's bogey. That lead lasted until the final three holes where Camara regained her advantage and won despite Penzold's strong 2-over-par 74. In the end, Penzold turned in her lowest three-round card of the season at a 2-over-par 218.
Bunched together in the middle of the pack, the first of the other three Oaks to qualify were junior
Julia Torrez in a tie for 28th with two birdies as part of an 11-over-par 83 on Wednesday giving her seven in the tournament and her best three-round score of the season (26-over-par 242). Moving up one spot into a tie for 32nd, sophomore
Kayla Lancaster had her best of three rounds, a 9-over-par 81, push her to a 29-over-par 245 while freshman
Ester Otiepkova wrapped up in 34th (31-over-par 247) after eight pars across her back nine.
Season In Review
In the first season under Director of Golf
Jess Stimack, Menlo Women's Golf delivered their share of highlights across the 2025-26 season. The fall portion of the campaign featured a runner-up finish for Penzold at the Oaks' own RCA Electric Invitational on
Sept. 30 then the team collectively delivered their two lowest rounds to that point to close the East Bay Fall Tournament on
Oct. 28.
Shifting to spring action, Menlo continued to post strong team totals at the LA Spring Kickoff (Feb. 3) and the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (Feb. 24) which gave way to Penzold's back-to-back tournament victories at the RCA Electric Spring Invitational on
Mar. 6 and The Big Freeze on
Mar. 24 which helped earn her two PacWest Golfer of the Week honors (
Mar. 11,
Mar. 25). Taking seventh as a team at the PacWest Championship, Penzold would claim a runner-up individual finish, underscoring the program's bright future.
