VISION, MISSION, PHILOSOPHY, AND GOALS

Menlo College Vision

Menlo College's vision is to redefine undergraduate business education to be dynamically adaptive, innovative, and relevant so that students can recognize opportunities and apply 21st century skills to make a positive impact on the world.

Menlo College Mission

At Menlo College, we ignite potential and educate students to make meaningful contributions in the innovation economy.

Our students thrive in an environment that values: small class sizes, experiential learning, engaged and student-centered faculty, holistic advising, exceptional student success resources, robust athletics programs and student leadership activities, and opportunities to engage in the Silicon Valley environment. Our graduates are able to learn throughout their lives and to think analytically, creatively, and responsibly in order to drive positive change in organizations and communities. Our faculty members mentor students by identifying potential, cultivating students' individual talents, and helping them build a roadmap to support their success. We support our faculty in producing research that informs teaching, theory development, and professional practice.

Collectively, the following represents the core values that inform our mission statement:

At Menlo College, we:

  • Value diverse ideas and celebrate our differences
  • Treat all people with fairness and equity
  • Develop the full potential in each person
  • Support a range of teaching and learning styles
  • Continually improve the educational process
  • Consider one's responsibilities to others
  • Act with integrity

Vice President and Director of Athletics Statement on Intercollegiate Athletics

The history and tradition of Menlo College Athletics is impressive. In the past five years specifically, the program has grown exponentially. With a strong and structured department and a commitment to building quality programs, the sky's the limit for Menlo College Athletics. While we are all competitive by nature and want to win championships, we must not lose sight of our mission – to use the avenue of competitive sport to enhance each student-athlete's educational and undergraduate experience.

Developing character and solid personal habits is by far the most essential part of our jobs.  We must never compromise our integrity while hunting for conference and national titles. A commitment to a high level of competition can co-exist with a commitment to integrity and using sport to teach character and life lessons. We must all balance the two and focus on what is best for the student-athlete. Menlo College Athletics strongly supports the concept of the student-athlete, which means that the academic performance of our student-athletes should always be our top priority.

Menlo College Athletics Mission

Menlo College Athletics enhances the undergraduate experience by developing leaders through intercollegiate athletics. The department supports academic achievement, personal growth, and competitive excellence while preparing student-athletes to lead with integrity on campus, in their professions, and in their communities.

Menlo College Athletics Vision

Menlo College Athletics delivers high-quality, competitive programs that reflect the College’s values and contribute meaningfully to student success. Through intentional coaching, thoughtful recruiting, and strong operational support, Menlo Athletics fosters an environment where student-athletes excel academically, compete with purpose, and grow as leaders.

Purpose

At Menlo College Athletics, our purpose is clear: to use sport as a powerful platform for developing people. Every aspect of the student-athlete experience—from preparation and competition to leadership and service—is designed to support growth, responsibility, and excellence.

Winning matters at Menlo, not as an end in itself, but as a reflection of disciplined preparation, teamwork, and commitment. Competitive success signals that programs are operating with focus, integrity, and intention. More importantly, it reinforces a culture where high standards, accountability, and continuous improvement are the norm.

Athletics Philosophy

Menlo College Athletics believes competitive excellence and personal integrity must coexist. Sport is an educational experience that reinforces discipline, accountability, collaboration, and resilience. Coaches and staff serve as educators and mentors, using athletics to teach habits and values that extend well beyond competition.

Academic achievement remains the highest priority for all student-athletes. Athletics exists to complement and strengthen the academic mission of the College.

Developing Students Through Sport

Nearly half of Menlo College students participate in intercollegiate athletics, placing athletics at the center of campus life. The athletics experience reinforces a learning community that integrates academics, leadership development, and student engagement.

Through participation in athletics, student-athletes are encouraged to develop:

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Discipline, accountability, and preparation
  • Integrity and ethical decision-making
  • Problem-solving and adaptability
  • Respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship
  • Leadership through service and contribution
  • These outcomes support persistence, degree completion, and long-term success beyond Menlo College.
