PacWest Weekly Awards (Mar. 10)
LONG BEACH, CA – In a breakthrough performance at the RCA Electric Spring Invitational for her first victory as a collegiate competitor, freshman
Kim Penzold of Menlo Women's Golf was named Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Week.
"Us coaches and her teammates could not be happier for her," said Director of Golf
Jess Stimack. "Kimmy is an extremely hard worker and she deserves this."
Eight Birdies, 29 Pars Guide Penzold To Triumph
It was a three-round tournament to remember for Penzold as the native of Rathenow, Germany began the action at Coyote Creek Golf Course by shooting a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round on
Mar. 5. The front nine saw Penzold par seven holes then, to begin round two on the same day, she birdied three of her first eight holes en route to a 3-over-par 75 that helped put her into a tie for first overall among the 30-golfer field.
The final round on
Mar. 6 saw Penzold increase her birdie total to eight (second-most in the tournament) during a 7-over-par 79 effort that eventually resulted in her hoisting her first collegiate trophy.
