Second Collegiate Win Makes Penzold A Two-Time PacWest Golfer Of The Week

PacWest Weekly Awards (Mar. 25)

LONG BEACH, CA
 – Menlo Women's Golf freshman Kim Penzold made it consecutive tournaments won after a dramatic performance down the stretch in Dominican's The Big Freeze earned her a second collegiate title while also leading to her second Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Week honor.

"Kim's win this week felt a lot different than the previous week," said Assistant Coach Joe Dolby. "She did an amazing job of sticking to her game plan, focusing on one shot at a time, and staying present. She was a couple strokes behind with six holes to play, but we knew she had some birdie opportunities ahead that would work in her favor if she stuck to her plan. Last time, she got a bit distracted by the leaderboard and the potential thrill of getting that first win, which led to some stumbles down the stretch. That experience helped shape her win this week, helping this one feel more satisfying and validating."

Penzold Posts Six Birdies, 26 Pars En Route To Victory
After parring six of her first seven holes to start the first round of The Big Freeze, Penzold authored three birdies the rest of the way to position herself in second overall at a 1-under-par 71 at the end of Mar. 23.

The native of Rathenow, Germany then parred her first eight holes to begin the second round on Mar. 24, contending with leader No. 25 Lauren Lee of Western Washington as well as Point Loma's Summer Schafer. With just three strokes separating the three competitors and three holes to play, Penzold birdied her next two to seal the win, finishing the round with an even-par 72 and a 1-under-par 143 for the two-day event.

This marks Penzold's second PacWest Golfer of the Week honor after her first came on Mar. 11.
