East Bay Fall Tournament Results

HAYWARD, CA – Menlo Women's Golf concluded the fall with some of the lowest marks of the season, placing 10th at the East Bay Fall Tournament on Tuesday out at Stonebrae Country Club. One of three Oaks qualifiers to deliver their best round of the year in the three-round tournament, freshman Kim Penzold closed strong in seventh place of 82 golfers.

Oaks Highlights
-Team finished ahead of five other squads including Jessup, Chico State, & Vanguard
-Kim Penzold knocked down two eagles on the first day; ironically on the same hole
-Season-best rounds came from a trio of Oaks qualifiers including Penzold, Ester Otiepkova, & Julia Torrez

Menlo Keeps Pace, Holds Top 10 Position On Final Day
Returning for their final two holes from the previously darkness-halted second round to begin the day, the Oaks were paced by solid rounds from both Penzold and fellow freshman Ester Otiepkova. Penzold parred 13 of her holes en route to a 5-over-par 77 which combined nicely with her 1-under-par 71 from round two to put her at a seventh at 7-over-par 223. Meanwhile, Otiepkova birdied a pair of holes to counter her two bogies for an even-par 72, her lowest total through her first four collegiate tournaments, with a 12-over-par 228 earning her 15th overall. The tandem of Penzold and Otiepkova combined for a grand total of 74 pars in the tournament (the highest duo by seven).

Junior Julia Torrez initially wrapped up her best round of the season at a 5-over-par 77 in the second before going just three strokes beyond that in the finale for a 30-over-par 246 good for 48th in the field. Senior Angelina Pohahau was the team's birdie leader on the last day, matching her opening round with a 12-over-par 84 helping her finish 64th while sophomore Kayla Lancaster emerged as the top Menlo individual following her lowest round of the year at an 8-over-par 80 toward her tie for 69th with a 45-over-par 261.
