ITA NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Singles Regional Rankings (Nov. 12)
ITA NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Doubles Regional Rankings (Nov. 12)
TEMPE, AZ – In this week's debut of regional rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Menlo Men's Tennis had a quartet of Oaks either inside the West Region's top 10 in doubles, top 20 in singles, or, in one case, both as senior
Asger Emil Ildor and grad student
Ian Ramiro Perez were joined by freshman
David Espinosa Navarro and junior
Robin McAlpine across the listings.
"Our doubles team of Asger and Ian have been one of the best doubles pairs in the conference for the last year and a half," said Director of Tennis
Ben Cabell. "We're so proud of their accomplishments and look forward to what they accomplish the rest of the season."
Asger Emil Ildor & Ian Ramiro Perez – West Region No. 9 Doubles
After opening the fall segment with a 6-1 victory over Jessup's Joren Stevens and Lucas Pham at the
Jessup Warriors Invitational, the tandem of
Asger Emil Ildor and
Ian Ramiro Perez proceeded to emerge victorious in a hard-fought opening round match at
ITA West Regionals. The Round of 32 saw the seasoned pairing best Westmont's Jarrett Navarat and Sidharth Maharana 8-7 with a dominant 7-2 tiebreaker.
David Espinosa Navarro – West Region No. 15 Singles
It was quite the fall debut for
David Espinosa Navarro who won his first collegiate match versus his American River opponent (Jesus Galvan) in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 during the
Jessup Warriors Invitational. Ascending further than any other Oak at
ITA West Regionals, Espinosa Navarro turned in gutsy victories over Jacob Rudd of Azusa Pacific 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 and Jamison Pfingston of Colorado Mesa 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 to reach the Round of 16. He followed that up with one more win over Jessup's Stevens 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 as part of the
Aggie Invitational.
Robin McAlpine – West Region No. 17 Singles
The start of
Robin McAlpine's junior season in the Menlo blue and white was highlighted by a pair of key strong singles wins. His time at
ITA West Regionals featured a 6-3, 6-2 dominant showing against Gideon Vethan of Westmont, helping the Surrey, England native reach the Round of 32. Two years removed from his
Golden State Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honor, McAlpine challenged NCAA Division I Nevada's Sebastiano Cressi during the
Aggie Invitational and came away with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
Asger Emil Ildor – West Region No. 18 Singles
Outside of his doubles success,
Asger Emil Ildor led by example as one of Menlo's veteran team members, picking up multiple singles wins during the fall season. He joined his aforementioned teammates in the
ITA West Regionals Round of 32 after bettering Ian Nicodemus of Azusa Pacific 6-3, 6-4 then was on the winning end of a inter-divisional matchup versus NCAA DI Sacramento State's Sebastian Vlahos 6-3, 6-2 in the
Aggie Invitational.
"Really proud of David, Robin, and Asger for this achievement as it is not easy to do in one of the best regions in the country," Cabell said. "Robin and Asger's growth over the last three seasons has been phenomenal and we've been very impressed with David's fall season – he deserves it and has a bright future ahead."
