ITA West Regionals Results | Singles & Doubles Draws
LA MIRADA, CA – As competitors from around the Pacific West Conference descended on Southern California for ITA West Regionals, Menlo Men's and Women's Tennis had multiple Oaks advance throughout the various singles and doubles draws.
"The teams performed well overall," said Director of Tennis
Ben Cabell. "We competed with some of the best players in the conference and showed a lot of improvement from last year."
Navarro's Singles Victories Leads Men
The opening rounds of the singles draw represented a memorable introduction for
David Espinosa Navarro to multiple Pacific West Conference opponents as he bested Azusa Pacific's Jacob Rudd 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 before taking down Jamison Pfingston of Colorado Mesa 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 to reach the Round of 16. His run ended there, however, with Biola's Angel Guerrero (Biola) securing a 6-0, 6-3 win to eventually reach the finals.
Other Oaks to start the singles draw with victories were junior
Robin McAlpine, who advanced to the Round of 32 with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Gideon Vethan of Westmont, and senior
Asger Emil Ildor, who also won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 against Azusa Pacific's Ian Nicodemus. McAlpine would narrowly fall to Fresno Pacific's Jordi Gonzalez in three frames 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 while Ildor was topped by eventual semifinalist Alejandro Flores Monteverde of Biola 7-6, 6-0.
Joining Ildor on the doubles court was graduate student
Ian Ramiro Perez as the tandem outplayed Westmont's Jarrett Navarat and Sidharth Maharana 8-7 (7-2) in the opening round before falling to Biola's Pol Masafret and Juan Vallejo 8-6.
Multiple Women Advance
In the doubles draw, the pairing of senior
Yousra Hidass and junior
Livia Harper reached the Round of 16 after defeating Colorado Mesa's tandem of Jade Brilhante and Devyn Rodriguez in a thrilling tiebreaker 8-7 (8-6). The Oaks, however, would not make it past Sofia Pavlova and Maldini Simic of Cal State LA thereafter.
Singles action had two Menlo representatives advance to the Round of 32 as junior
Zofia Dziewiecka put away Biola's Isabelle Karam 6-4, 6-2 to start while sophomore
Ombeline Robilliart outlasted Ivet Stancheva of Biola 6-0, 2-6, 10-5. Fresno Pacific's Fabiana Gonzalez and Colorado Mesa's Jade Brilhante were the ones to defeat Dziewiecka (7-5, 6-0) and Robilliart (6-4, 6-2) in the matchups that followed.
Up Next
The Oaks will now turn their attention to pairings hosted by PacWest opponents as the men will next be at the Fresno Pacific Hidden Dual (Oct. 24-25) and the women will travel to San Rafael for the Dominican Fall Invitational (Oct. 24-26).
