BASEBALL TRIUMPHANT OVER CSU EAST BAY, 8-5

HAYWARD, CA

The Oaks' weekend ended on a high note Sunday afternoon, with the series finale going their way by final score of 8-5. Their overall record now stands at 3-3.

Menlo out-hit East Bay by a 9-5 margin, including 2 hits by third baseman Sean Pettener. Three Oaks finished with 2 RBIs to their name: Anthony Masetti, Jonathan Charboneau, and Raymond Garcia. Charboneau got the game off to a hot start in the top of the 1st, with a 2-run triple to right-center field. Then, in the top of the 6th, Masetti sent a moonshot to left field that scored both himself and Erik Quinzon. After hitting no home runs in the first 4 contests of the season, the Oaks now have big flies in back-to-back games.

The team also had 3 stolen bases in the game, with 1 each for Erik Quinzon, Anthony Masetti, and Jonathan Charboneau. With the engines revving in the power hitting, and now on the basepaths, Menlo looks like a team hitting its groove with a few games under its belt.

Sophomore right-hander Chase Barsotti took the mound with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th and recorded the final 4 of the game. He has looked just as dominant and confident in his first appearances of this season as he did in his freshman year, which bodes well for Menlo's bullpen when they get underway in a tough Golden State Athletic Conference later this month.

The Oaks will look to keep tallying wins when they host Simpson University for doubleheaders on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th. First pitch for each day is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
