Atherton, CA- It was a cold and windy day out at Cartan Field with the Oaks hosting the Jessup Warriors for a single day of GSAC baseball. Offense was the name of the game for both sides with a combined 29 hits and 24.
Oaks Bats Come Alive
Menlo opened up the game with three, quick runs in the first inning. They would go on to total 10 runs via 13 hits. Seniors Sage Pera and Anthony Masetti along with sophomore Johnathan Charboneau led the way for the Oaks at the plate. Pera had the hot hand all day going 3-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a two-run home run. Masetti has been swinging the bat well all season for the Oaks. He had two more hits today bringing his season average up to .320. Lasty, Charboneau has been a great addition to the roster for the Oaks. The sophomore was dialed in today going 2-4, hitting a clutch triple late in the ball game and driving in two runs.
Late Rally Falls Short
Through four innings it was all Jessup as they led 13-5. Yet, Menlo found a groove late in the sixth inning scoring five runs before the game ended. Zach Dyer got the rally started with a single, followed by Chaz Kaneakua's single. Despite Sage Pera's home run and another Zach Dyer single in the ninth the Oaks fell short 14-10. Still, Menlo posted a season high 10 runs and should look to carry the momentum forward.
Up Next…
Menlo now turns their attention to a three game series against the Westmont Warriors. Westmont is currently ranked 13th in the nation but have dropped two in a row. Hopefully the Oaks can keep up this offensive momentum and pick up a few critical wins against a highly ranked opponent.
