BASEBALL GOES 0-FOR-2 IN FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST SIMPSON

ATHERTON, CA

Menlo played the first of 2 weekend doubleheaders against the Simpson Red Hawks this afternoon, with the Oaks dropping both games. Their record now stands at 3-5 overall.

Game 1: Menlo 2 - 7 Simpson University

Starter Brock Moore put in a solid shift as the Oaks' starter in game 1, tossing 5.0 innings and striking out 5 while allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk. In his first 3 games of the season, Menlo's ace has struck out 15 batters and allowed just 6 hits across 15.0 innings of work. The right-handed senior is looking right at home atop the Oaks' rotation, which will be a boon for head coach Alex Hoover.

Sophomore Jonathan Charboneau notched his 3rd RBI of the season with a double in the bottom of the 7th inning. Despite being a new addition to the roster this season, the left fielder already looks settled in his new surroundings and has hit the ground running in his first few weeks in Atherton.

Menlo's best offensive performance came from designated hitter Sage Pera, who went 2-for-4 as the Oaks' cleanup man. Pera also scored a run, crossing the plate on the Charboneau double. Pera has been an excellent addition to the Menlo roster this season, providing sparks on the field and in the dugout.

Game 2: Menlo 4 - 6 Simpson University

The second game featured an uptick in offensive production from the Oaks, but not quite enough to secure the victory. The bats sprang to life in the bottom of the 5th, with doubles by Anthony Masetti (scoring Justin Menesini) and Sage Pera (scoring Masetti and Sean Pettener). Masetti leads the team in RBIs this season, with 9, and Pera has the second-most, with 4.

Menlo's starter, Logan Snow, continued his strikeout streak with 6 in his 3.0 innings of work. In his first 3 starts of the season, Snow has shown a knack for retiring batters. Across 12.0 innings pitched so far, he has totaled an impressive 20 strikeouts, good for a K/9 rate of 15.00.

Up Next

The Oaks will return to Cartan Field tomorrow, February 11th, for another doubleheader against the Red Hawks. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
