FRESNO, Calif. – Menlo Taekwondo delivered a strong showing this past weekend, earning multiple podium finishes at both the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association (NCTA) Team Trials and the USA Taekwondo (USATKD) California State Championships, held at the Fresno Convention Center.
NCTA Team Trials
The Oaks competed first at the NCTA Team Trials on Friday, April 3 and had two athletes obtain medals in sparring. At the NCTA
Nicholas Carlo earned a gold medal in the Heavy (+87kg) Male bracket to defeat Abou Sow from UMBC to punch his ticket to be on USA Team for the FISU World Games.
Shayler Guymon would go on to earn a bronze medal in stacked 16-man bracket. After falling short in the semifinals, Guymon would go on to advance to the third-place bout and added two more victories in the bracket to claim third.
USATKD California State Championships
Just a couple days earning a spot on USA Team for the FISU Games, Carlo would go on to collect more hardware by adding another gold medal.
Shayler Guymon topped off an outstanding weekend by collecting his first gold medal in his weight division.
