The Big Freeze Results (Round 1) Â
RICHMOND, CA – Leading a Menlo Women's Golf team tied for seventh overall after one day of Dominican's The Big Freeze on Monday, freshman
Kim Penzold finds herself in a battle with No. 25 Lauren Lee of Western Washington at the top of the leaderboard as just one stroke separates Lee as the leader and Penzold in second place.
Penzold One Of Only Two Under Par Through Opening Round
After parring six of her first seven holes to start the day's lone round, Penzold delivered what would be the first of three birdies on Hole 8. She dropped under par with another birdie on Hole 11 then bounced back from drawing back even with her last birdie on Hole 15. That ultimately put her second overall at 1-under-par 71 with one more trip through 18 holes remaining tomorrow.
Junior
Haley Hoang also logged a trio of birdies on the day with all three coming in the first six holes. Numerous pars down the stretch settled her into a tie for 32nd at a 10-over-par 82 while sophomore
Kayla Lancaster was one stroke back of her teammate at 11-over-par 83, tied for 35th. Parring nearly half of her round, junior
Julia Torrez will enter the final day tied for 42nd with a 13-over-par 85.
