San Dimas, California- After a close defeat against #13 Vanguard on Thursday, Menlo Women's Basketball rebounded in a big way to end their Southern California road trip with a win. The Oaks managed to defeat Life Pacific 83-72. Menlo would seize the lead with 21 seconds left in the first quarter thanks to a Jasmyne Huggins layup. From that point on it would be all Oaks despite a few spirited runs by the Warriors.
It was an uncharacteristically cold shooting night for star forward Kiara Brown. Despite only shooting 4-12 from the field, the junior showcased her versatility across the rest of the boxscore. Brown would hand out a team high six assists and knock down six of her seven free throw attempts. Fellow starter Jordyn Rosette continues to shine on the defensive side of the floor. Rosette blocked three more shots while also coming up with a steal in the Oaks win.
Menlo's second unit would prove to be instrumental in the team's victory. After a difficult outing against Vanguard, freshman guard Alberte Frisch made sure to bounce back. Frisch scored a season high 18 points to go along with three rebounds and four assists. Jasmyne Huggins also stuffed the stat sheet off the bench. She added 12 points, two steals, two assists and a team high eight rebounds. Most importantly, Frisch and Huggins combined to shoot 12 of 17. During a game where Menlo's top scoring options struggled, the efficiency of the second unit was critical.
Overall it was a solid trip down south for the Oaks. Their loss to Vanguard showcased the team's gritty disposition to battle back from a large deficit. Defeating Life Pacific keeps coach Spataro's squad firmly towards the top of the GSAC standings. Heading into February Menlo will be back in the friendly confines of Haynes-Prim Pavilion. The Oaks will take on Jessup University on Saturday the 4th followed by OUAZ on the 9th! With the GSAC Conference Tournament looming every game will matter!
