A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Collier played his high school ball at Vanden High School in Fairfield, Calif. where he averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds in his senior season. His double-double average earned him First Team All-Solano County Athletic Conference honors. He was the first player from Vanden to continue his playing career at a four-year college.
