Oaks Send Off Four Seniors in Final Home Battle Against the Cardinal

ATHERTON, Calif – The Menlo Men's Volleyball team closed out its home schedule on Friday night inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion, hosting Stanford for Senior Night. The Oaks honored four graduating seniors before the match and battled through the evening before falling to the Cardinal in straight sets in MPSF action.

Set-By-Set Recap
Menlo celebrated four seniors in Gabriel Ocasio Lopez, Joshua Friedman, Danny Smithers, and Mathias Durfee prior to first serve, honoring the quartet for their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the program in their final home game of the season inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

The opening set featured a competitive set between the two Silicon Valley programs, with strong play from Keau Thompson and Alexandre Ferdani each earning four kills in the frame. As the action continued to the late stages of the set with the Oaks staying in striking distance, the Cardinal would go on multiple point runs to force timeouts and pushed late to claim the opener 25-20.

In the second set, Menlo once again came out aggressive offensively. Mathias Durfee and Thompson each collected an ace and kills that helped keep the set close in the early stages. Stanford's depth showcased on the night with multiple kills spread through the offense with the Oak's fighting to stop momentum. Despite the effort, the Oak's continued to compete before the Cardinal closed out the frame 25-18 to go up two.

The third set saw a different starting lineup to continue to fight in front of a packed home crowd. Gavin Gonzalez, Kai Van Haaren, Joshua Friedman, and Xavier Cordova saw the court for the first time in the third and made critical contributions as they provided energy to slow down Stanford's attack. Menlo remained resilient through long rallies and defensive stretches, but Stanford secured the final set 25-16 to complete the match.
