Oaks Push No. 1 UCLA in Competitive Matchup in Haynes-Prim

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Menlo Men's Volleyball program welcomed the no. 1 team in the nation to Haynes-Prim Pavilion for the first time, battling the nationally ranked UCLA Bruins before falling in straight sets 23-25, 16-25, 16-25.

Set-By-Set Recap
The Oaks came out fearless in the first set, matching the nation's top-ranked team point-for-point through much of the frame. Menlo would go on a staggering three point run early to ignite their offense startubg with an ace from Alexandre Ferdani that led to two kills from middle blocker Garrett Hockman. Mathias Durfee led the offense in the set with 4 kills on a .300 hitting percentage with Keau Thompson and Hockman each earning 3. Late in the set, Menlo battled back to tie the score at 22-22 before UCLA narrowly escaped with a 25-23 win.

The second set saw UCLA capitalize on its depth and offensive efficiency, building momentum through the middle portion of the frame. Menlo continued to compete and found points from Thompson and Durfee, but the Bruins maintained control to take the set 25-16 and move ahead 2-0 in the match.

In the third, the Oaks searched for another push against the top-ranked visitors. Menlo continued to battle through long rallies and defensive stretches, but UCLA once again executed in key moments to close out the match with a 25-16 final set.
