Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Menlo Pushes Vanguard Behind Strong Third-Set Response

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Menlo Men's Volleyball program took on the Lions for their second game of the series pushing Vanguard to four sets before falling 20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 16-25.

Set-by-Set Recap
Vanguard opened the match with efficient offense, but Menlo stayed within striking distance behind early kills from Keau Thompson, Alexandre Ferdani, and Mathias Durfee. The Oaks continued to chip away and found momentum late in the frame with key points at the net, but the visitors held on for a 25-20 first-set win.

The second set featured another competitive battle, with Menlo answering several Vanguard runs and staying close through the middle portion of the set. Garrett Hockman and Durfee provided timely finishes, while the Oaks produced strong blocking moments to keep pressure on the Lions. Despite the effort, Vanguard used a late push to claim the second set 25-19.

Facing a two-set deficit, Menlo responded with their best set of the night in the third. The Oaks attacked at a high level and controlled key stretches of play, using balanced offense and improved defensive play to seize momentum. Thompson helped lead the charge while multiple hitters contributed as Menlo earned a 25-23 victory to extend the match and energize the home crowd.

In the fourth, Vanguard regained control early and capitalized on its offensive rhythm. Menlo continued to compete point-for-point and searched for another comeback, but the visitors closed out the set 25-16 to secure the match.
