Ferdani Earns 11 Kills in Tight MPSF Showdown Against Vanguard

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Menlo Men's Volleyball team hosted a familiar opponent from their NAIA days in Vanguard University inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion on Friday Night for MPSF action but came up short in straight sets (18-25, 20-25, 20-25).

Set-By-Set Recap
The first set saw the Oaks take an early lead with a four-point swing that forced the Lions into multiple attacking errors and force a timeout before the midway point. The Oaks showed strong energy on both sides of the ball, but Vanguard responded with a late surge, using a balanced attack to pull away and take the first set.

The second set saw the Oaks continue to battle, with multiple lead changes and extended rallies keeping the set within reach. Ferdani helped anchor the offense with efficient swings with 7 kills in the set, while contributions from Keau Thompson and Vojtech Simunek kept Menlo in contention. Despite the effort, Vanguard once again capitalized late, stringing together points to secure a 25-20 win and take a 2-0 match lead.

In the third, Menlo looked to extend the match and showed resilience throughout. The Oaks fought through another tightly contested set, staying within striking distance deep into the frame. However, Vanguard maintained control down the stretch, limiting Menlo's offensive rhythm and closing out the match with a 25-20 victory to complete the sweep.

Oaks Star Performances
  • French international Alexandre Ferdani led the offense for the Oaks once again, tallying 11 kills while hitting a .500. Defensively, he also led Menlo in digs with 7.
  • Setter Joshua Friedman saw the entire match and led the offense by dishing out 26 assists. He also collected three points with an ace and two block assists.
  • Keau Thompson saw the ball the most and earned 8 kills along with a service ace and a block assist.
