Menlo NCWA Women’s Wrestling Earns Runner-Up Finish with First Ever National Champion

BOSSIER CITY, LA – In their inaugural season, NCWA Menlo Women's Wrestling had an amazing showing at the NCWA National Championships, earning their first individual national champion, two national finalists, eight All-Americans, and placing second as a team.
 
Lina Perez showcased resilience throughout the tournament at the 110lb bracket, earning All-American honors with a sixth-place finish. After dropping her opening bout, Perez battled back through the consolation bracket with three impressive pins to secure her spot on the podium. She advanced to the fifth-place match but ultimately fell short, finishing sixth to cap off a hard-fought national performance.
 
Freshman Maya Barrios was another road warrior for the Oaks at 117lbs, battling back to a seventh-place finish. After dropping her opening match, Barrios responded with grit in the consolation bracket, earning three consecutive pins to stay alive in the tournament. She carried that momentum into the seventh-place bout, securing another fall to finish on a high note and claim seventh overall.
 
Among the standout performances on the women's side, Lastevia Muir tched her name into program history at 131lbs, becoming the first All-American. Muir opened her tournament with a dominant technical fall before delivering a highlight-reel moment in her next bout, securing a takedown that led directly to a fall to punch her ticket to the semifinals and secure All-American status. After a hard-fought semifinal match, Muir battled back in the placement rounds and capped off her historic run with a pin in 2:32 to claim 5th place marking a milestone achievement for the program.
 
Gwendolyn Tomkins turned in a strong performance at 138 pounds, earning All-American honors with a fifth-place finish. Tomkins powered through the bracket with three falls to secure her spot in the semifinals and lock up All-American status. After a setback in the semifinals, she responded in the fifth-place match with a hard-fought 4-3 decision to close out an impressive tournament run.
 
Kayla Zeidler put together a strong showing at 145 pounds, earning All-American honors with a sixth-place finish. Zeidler opened the tournament with an impressive pin before falling in the quarterfinals. She responded on the backside with another fall to secure All-American status. After a setback in the consolation semifinals, Zeidler finished sixth overall to cap off a solid national tournament run.
 
Leia Hernandez made program history at 160 pounds, becoming the first national finalist in program history while earning All-American honors with a runner-up finish. Hernandez powered through the bracket with three falls to secure her spot on the podium, then delivered a strong 5-1 decision in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. She ultimately fell just short in the finals, finishing second to cap off a historic tournament run.
 
Siomara Hernandez also delivered a strong performance on the national stage, earning All-American honors with a 6th place finish at 207lbs. After falling in the quarterfinals, Hernandez responded on the backside with a dominant 46-second pin to secure her spot on the podium. She would go on to battle in the placement rounds, advancing to the 5th place bout to cap off an impressive tournament run.
 
Neila Fritts delivered a historic performance at 240lbs, becoming the first national champion in program history for NCWA Menlo Women's Wrestling. Fritts secured All-American honors with a fall in the quarterfinals before earning a 12-7 decision in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. In the finals, she capped off her dominant run with a pin in 5:36 to claim the national title.
 
As a team, the Oaks put together an incredible performance in their first season, showcasing depth, resilience, and championship-level talent across the lineup. With eight All-Americans, multiple finalists, and a national champion leading the way, Menlo firmly established itself as a rising force on the national stage.
