NCWA Menlo Men's Wrestling Claims Second with Two Champs at CA State Tournament

FRESNO, CA – The Menlo NCWA Men's Wrestling program made an impressive showing at the NCWA California State Tournament placing seven in the top three and taking second as a team with 95 team points.

Oaks Placements
Jesus Juarez led the charge for the Oaks, capturing the 125lb title in dominant fashion for his first collegiate tournament crown. Juarez would open his tournament with a technical fall and followed that result with two falls over Alexander Nguyen and Joseph Jimenez. Juarez would seal the title with another tech fall oer Fabian Aguirre of Sac State to end a fantastic run. Junior Orion Jenkins-Schell would also claim his first collegiate tournament crown at 197lbs. Jenkins would earn two pins to get in the finals and would end his run with a major to claim first place.
 
Giancarlo Plaza would secure third place in a round robin bracket with a major and a fall in 1:31. Carson Gonzalez would earn himself second place at 141 with a two quick falls to get into the finals. Diego Cesar Chaidez would pick up a silver medal, earning a narrow 5-4 decision in the semis to get into the finals at 197.

David Arroyo would claim a third-place finish after dropping a close 4-0 decision in the quarters. Arroyo would pick up a technical fall in his final match to secure the bronze medal at 149. Eric Smith-Williams rebounded after falling short in the semis, securing a fall in the consolation finals to secure third place. Torin Lipska also fought back on the consolation bracket after falling in the semifinals. Lipska would beat Chris Alvarez of Sac State in 57 seconds with a pin to claim third. The final Oak to place in the top three is sophomore Emlio Johnson. After failing to get past the first round, Johnson would earn two falls on the backside to pick up the bronze medal.
 
Up Next
The Oaks will now head into the postseason, looking to host the NCWA WCC Championships at home on March 14 with a chance to make the national tournament at the end of the month.
