Menlo NCWA Women's Wrestling Takes Home Team Title at NCWA CA State Tournament

FRESNO, CA – The NCWA Menlo Women's Wrestling Team delivered an outstanding performance at the NCWA California State Tournament, placing multiple wrestlers in the top three and showcasing their depth across every weight class.

The Oak's Would come out with five champions to help them secure the team title. Lina Perez claimed the 110lb title with authority, securing three falls in every match, not allowing a match to reach the second period en route to gold. Lastevia Muir continues to show how dominant she has been this season. Muir would record three consecutive falls to secure the championship. Following her at 138lbs is fellow teammate Shamara Ramsey/ Ramsey turned in one of the most complete performances with three falls before closing out her title run with a 19-7 major in the finals. Leia Hernandez battled through the 145lbs bracket to claim the crown, earning a fall in the semis before earning a 15-14 decision to take the title. Atlas Fritts secured the crown at 207-240 via forfeit.
 
Megene Abdalla would secure second place while teammate Isabelle Inda would take third at the 103lb weight class. Isabeela Sebring would secure second place at 110 with a fall over UC San Diego before reaching the finals. Jesmeralda Lara would go on to earn second at 117, earning two falls to reach the first-place bout. Fellow teammate Maya Barrios would follow at 117 with a third-place finish, earning two falls on the backside of the bracket to claim bronze.
 
Luciana Rodriguez would be the lone Oak at 124 to secure a medal, earning a fall in her final match to secure third place. Gwendolyn Tomkins would earn second place, picking up a fall in under four minutes over Lillian Busnardo of Fresno St. Martha Zurita-Ortez would go on to claim third with two clutch wins to collect the bronze. Kayla Zeidler would take the 145lb weight class and picked up a silver medal. Zeidler would earn two dominant pins to get into the finals but would fall in her last bout to earn herself second-place. The final Oak to place is Jessica Mendieta at the 160-180lb weight class. Mendieta would earn a fall before falling just short of the title, claiming second place.
 
Up Next
The Oaks will now head into the postseason, looking to host the NCWA WCC Championships at home on March 14 with a chance to make the national tournament at the end of the month.
