Menlo Men’s Basketball Drops Road Rematch In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA – A big performance by senior forward JaMaal Unuakhalu versus the Pacific West Conference standings leader in Point Loma had Menlo Men's Basketball attempting multiple second-half comebacks, but the Sea Lions had the last word on Thursday inside their own Golden Gymnasium, winning 91-68.

Oaks Highlights
-Scoring 22 points with three 3-pointers made (both season highs), JaMaal Unuakhalu added three blocks and six rebounds
-Luke Wieskamp scored in double figures for the second time in his last four games, totaling 11 points including a perfect effort in four trips to the foul line
-A pair of triples helped Salim Arikat put in a season-high 10 points

PLNU Prevails Despite Season-High 22 Points From Unuakhalu
After starting the game in front 16-5, Point Loma was hit by five quick points including a 3-pointer by junior forward Salim Arikat to keep the margin in single digits. Freshman forward Luke Wieskamp's triple and another from Unuakhalu each helped Menlo remain within striking distance, but the Sea Lions used a 10-0 run to enter halftime up 55-36.

Unuakhalu built on his 15 first half points with five more in the first two minutes of the second period before an 8-0 PLNU run was countered by sophomore guard Quentin Thompson's own personal 7-0 response. The scoring bursts continued to oscillate as the Sea Lions' 9-1 shift was met by 11 unanswered from the Oaks, capped by Arikat's second triple of the evening. Time ran out on a further Menlo comeback with the final buzzer sounding at 91-68 in favor of the home team.
