Menlo Outscores Sunbirds In Each Of First Three Quarters
A hot start for the Oaks featured a fastbreak layup for redshirt freshman guard/forward
Kimberly Ceron-Romero and a 3-pointer from graduate student forward
Frida Schmidt as a sign of things to come. Neither side led by more than the five points for Menlo out of the gate as it was just an 18-17 advantage for Menlo heading to the second quarter where extended runs by both teams eventually settled with Fresno Pacific in front 31-30. The final seven points of the half were scored by the Oaks, four from senior guard
Alberte Frisch alone, making it 37-31 Menlo at the half.
Plenty of offense from Ceron-Romero pushed the Oaks' advantage further to start the second half before back-to-back Schmidt triples powered a 13-3 surge to close the quarter. The difference remained in double figures for the first six minutes of the fourth until a 6-0 comeback attempt by FPU that was countered with Frisch free throws in the final 51 seconds of the eventual 84-71 triumph.
