Menlo Turns In Season-Best 56.9 Percent Shooting Effort
While Fresno Pacific opened the afternoon in front 18-9, the Oaks steadily cut down the deficit with paint conversions from sophomore guard
Quentin Thompson, senior forward
JaMaal Unuakhalu, and junior guard
Devon Woods. The Sunbirds soon used 12 unanswered points to push further ahead, but Menlo closed the half strong as Woods had two baskets in addition to assisting another from junior guard
Max Sheridan while senior forward
Nick High recorded the Oaks' fifth block of the period on the other end.
Down 34-25 to begin the second half, Menlo had the margin at just six following a three-point play by High and thunderous putback dunk by Unuakhalu. FPU's ensuing 10-2 run then had the difference in the double digits where it stayed until six straight points combining efforts from Thompson, sophomore guard
Kai Brown, and High made it a two-possession game.
Brown soon nailed a 3-pointer, assisted a layup by High, and once again connected from deep to tie the game at 66-66 with 34 seconds left. Though Unuakhalu's fourth block of the game stopped the next layup attempt by the Sunbirds, a quick putback did fall and, with a steal on the next opportunity for Menlo, the visitors were able to finish the 70-66 win.
