Oaks Fall to Vanguard in a Tight Four Set Battle

COSTA MESA, CA – The Menlo Men's Volleyball team played their second match against Vanguard in back-to-back days. After coming off a reverse sweep the previous night, the Oaks were unable to tame the Lions a second time, dropping the match in four sets.
 
MATCH RECAP
The Oaks were able to come out strong in the first set, executing well on both offense and defense. The Oaks obtained 12 kills and capitalized on Vanguard's errors, taking the set 25-23. The second set was the most exciting of the day, with nine ties and five lead changes, both teams were fighting to go on multiple point runs. However, Menlo struggled to close out crucial points and dropped the set 24-26 with Vanguard evening the match 1-1. The Lions were able to find momentum in third and turned up their offense and took the third set 20-25. The final set saw another competitive effort from Menlo, who kept pace with Vanguard up until the midway point. Vanguard's late offensive push proved to be too much and sealed the match 21-25.
 
Oaks Top Performers
Freshman Ty Carson was able to lead the Oaks with 12 kills on the day and also 12 digs defensively. Wojciech Nowak accumulate 10 kills, 10 digs and 2 service aces. Mustafa Selcuk Uyar was able add 10 kills with 5 block assists to an already amazing debut season with the Oaks. William Lawler ran the offense with 40 assists and added 2 digs defensively. Makana Melchor anchored the offense with a team high 15 digs to keep Menlo in the match.
