Menlo Men's Volleyball Reverse Sweeps Vanguard for First MPSF Victory in Program History

COSTA MESA, CA – Menlo Men's Volleyball was able to secure their first ever MPSF Conference victory over the Vanguard Lions by a reverse sweep. After dropping the first two sets, the Oaks stormed back to take the final three, securing the match with clutch performances all-around.

SET BREAKDOWN
The Oaks started the match off struggling to find their footing early. The Lions came out with a explosive offensive consistency. Despite the Oaks having a solid .375 hitting percentage, Menlo couldn't keep pace and dropped the set 15-25. Menlo was able to adjust their rotation and battled much more competitively in the second set. The Oaks were able to hold a late lead, but multiple errors allowed Vanguard to rally back into the lead and take a close set 23-25, putting the Oaks in a 0-2 hole. Refusing to end the night, the Oaks fought back with ferocity in a pivotal third set. The Oaks were able to improve their hitting percentage as well as their defense with key blocks for momentum. Coming into the final points of the night, the Oaks found the energy to win the first set of the night 26-24 to stay alive. Riding the momentum, Menlo was able to earn their most dominant performance by winning the set 25-17. The set saw Menlo fire off 14 kills while also holding Vanguard to a .038 hitting percentage, heading into the fifth set. Already an intense night, the Oaks strived to a 15-10 victory to give the Oak the reverse sweep, earning their first conference win of the season and in history.

Oaks Top Performances
Mustafa Selcuk Uyar led the offense with an incredible 22 kills on the night, stepping up when the team needed the senior the most. William Lawler once again orchestrated the Oaks' offense brilliantly by dishing out 49 assists and achieving six points of his own. Wojciech Nowak also delivered an efficient performance with 11 kills, 12 digs, and one ace. Ty Carson contributed 10 kills, and was lethal from behind the line with three aces, and 12 digs, proving to be a key two-way player for the Oaks.
