Menlo Men's Volleyball Challenges Waves But Come Up Short

MALIBU, CA – For the second day in a row, the Oaks had back-to-back matchups against the Waves of Pepperdine University inside of the Firestone Fieldhouse. The Oaks would prove to cause trouble throughout the match, but would fall in straight sets 26-28, 18-25, 16-25 against the nationally ranked Waves.
 

MATCH RECAP
SET 1:
Menlo would come out strong in the first set, going point-for-point with the Waves in a thrilling opener. The Oaks would put Pepperdine on their heels with 11 ties with multiple lead changes. The Oaks would record 16 kills against the Waves while hitting a .343, but the Waves would edge the Oaks out 26-28.
 
SET 2:
In the second set, Pepperdine would set the tone early, giving the Oaks a rough time to find their offense. The Oaks were unable to capitalize on their offense, with the Waves holding their offense to a .192 hitting percentage. The Waves blocking and serving proved to be a problem for the Oaks, as Pepperdine close out the set 18-25.
 
SET 3:
The third set saw the same outcome for the Oaks. Menlo only recorded 7 kills with a .185 hitting percentage as Pepperdine continued their efficient attack, hitting over .500 to close out to match 16-25.
 

STAR OAK PERFORMANCES
Mustafa Selçuk Uyar:
Led the Oaks in kills with 11 and added in 4 kills defensively.

Ty Carson:
Another key offensive standout for Menlo, contributing 8 kills and 1 dig on the night.
 
Wojciech Nowak:
Nowak finished the match with 7.5 points with 5 kills, 2 Aces, and a block.
 
William Lawler:
The Oaks' main setter of the year does what he has been doing all season, dishing out 29 assists to his teammates while adding in a block and a dig on the defensive end.
 
Makana Melchor:
The star libero helped anchor the defense to keep the Oaks fighting with 10 digs on the night
