Oaks Battle Valiantly Despite Falling Against Nationally Ranked Pepperdine

MALIBU, CA – The Menlo College Men's Volleyball program faced a tough challenge on the road against Pepperdine University, falling in straight sets 9-25, 24-26, 22-25 inside of the Firestone Fieldhouse. The Oaks bounced back after a slow start in the first, but ultimately could not overcome the Waves' offense.
 

MATCH RECAP
The first set saw Pepperdine come out with tenacity, hitting almost perfectly from the field. The Oaks' tried to find some consistency but were unable to, only recording 4 kills to lose the set 9-25. The Oaks responded with a much more improved performance in the second. Menlo hit for a .417b hitting percentage on 13 kills to keep the match close with multiple lead changes and 11 ties in the set. The match remained tight until the final extra points where the Waves would take the set 24-26. The Oaks continued to push to find the momentum needed to claim a set. Menlo tallied another 13 kills, but Pepperdine's defense presented key plays at the net to seal the victory.
 

Key Oak Performances
Mustafa Selçuk Uyar was able to lead the Oaks with 9 kills offensively along with 3 blocks. Wojciech Nowak had a strong offensive outing with 7 kills on a .538 hitting percentage and a team high 7 digs. The setter for the Oaks was William Lawler who distributed 26 assists for the Oaks' offense.
