FRESNO, CA – Back inside Fresno Pacific's Special Events Center once again on Thursday, Menlo Women's Volleyball could not settle into a solid rhythm despite several Oaks putting in work on both sides of the ball. In the end, the Sunbirds remained undefeated this season, topping Menlo 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18).
Oaks Highlights
-The trio of
Janet Moala,
Maya Saole-Su'e, &
Fuka Kikuchi had six kills apiece to lead the Oaks
-
Ruby Santos &
Shaylee Ungos combined for 20 assists
-11 different Oaks had digs in the contest
Sunbirds Make Final Moves In Each Set
Multiple short runs helped Fresno Pacific jump out to a 15-7 advantage, but four different Oaks responded with kills as the gap was shortened to 17-11. Six unanswered points from there proved to be too much to overcome as the Sunbirds began 25-13 winners. Senior middle blocker/opposite
Maya Saole-Su'e registered multiple put-aways in the early portion of set two before a 7-1 surge by the home team created separation. Freshman outside hitter/opposite
Kate Ross had her number called for back-to-back kills thereafter, but five straight points would end the frame with FPU on top 25-15.
After both sides traded quick bursts to begin the third set, the action remained even through a kill by freshman middle blocker/opposite
Sophia Kelso to make it a one-score situation. Though Kelso would log one more kill before the night was over, seven of the final eight points were awarded to Fresno Pacific, earning them a 25-18 victory.
