Oaks Fall to UC Irvine at the ASICS Invitational

Santa Barbara, CA – In their first matchup of the season, Men's Volleyball faced UC Irvine at the ASICS Invitational in Santa Barbara. The Oaks fought valiantly but fell to the Anteaters in straight sets.
 
Fighting to til' the End
In the first of the night, UC Irvine came out firing from the start. The Oaks struggled to gain momentum but despite an early lead from Menlo, UC Irvine capitalized on multiple plays and took the set 14-25. The second set saw Irvine's defense improve as the Oaks couldn't take the second set 10-25. Menlo showed resilience in the third set, which was led by an improved offensive performance with 12 kills and .360 hitting percentage. The set saw multiple lead changes, however the Anteaters maintained consistency and closed out the match 21-25.
 
Key Performers
Gabriel Knittel was able to obtain a .714 hitting percentage, earning 5 kills off of 7 attempts and contributed 2 blocks. William Lawler was the main setter of the night with 16 assists and also earned 1 aces offensively. Mustafa Selçuk Uyar led the Oaks in kills with 7 and defensively earned 1 block assist.
