Oaks Unable to Take Out UC Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, CA – In the Oaks second match of the ASICS Invitational. Menlo Men's Volleyball played UC Santa Barbara for the first time this season in their home gymnasium. Menlo would unfortunately fall to the Gauchos in four sets despite giving them a touch time to close out the match.
 
Set by Set
The Oaks in the first set came out with energy, taking the first set 25-22. The Oaks were able to record 8 kills with a .318 hitting percentage and would take advantage of multiple errors by UC Santa Barbara. The second set saw a back-and-forth battle with three lead changes and ten ties. Menlo's offense stepped up with 14 kills on a .303 hitting percentage. However, the Gauchos were able to keep a steady play and take the second set 23-25, tying the match at one set apiece. The last two sets saw UC Santa Barbara step their game up with the Oaks struggling to find any sort of momentum. The Gauchos closed out the match by taking the third set 12-25, and the fourth and final set 13-25.
 
Key Performers
Gabriel Knittel, the middle blocker from Cameron Park, CA delivered an impressive performance by hitting a .700 hitting percentage with 7 kills on 10 attempts. Mustafa Selçuk Uyar was able to assist in leading the Oaks in kills with 12. The senior also acquired 2 blocks and 4 digs defensively throughout the match. William Lawler was able to orchestrate the offense with 22 assists on the night. Wojciech Nowak also assisted in the offense with 8 kills, proving a reliable attacking option for Menlo.
