Oaks Fall to CSUN on Final Day of ASICS Invitational

Santa Barbara, CA – In their final match of the ASICS Invitational, Menlo Men's Volleyball put up a tough fight against Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN) but would ultimately fall in four sets.
 
Close Battles
Menlo would come out strong by narrowly edging CSUN 26-24 in an intense opening set. The Oaks would put up 13 kills and would take advantage of attacking errors by CSUN. CSUN would end up bouncing back in the second set with 14 kills as the Oaks struggled to keep pace. Despite a solid 8 kills tallied, the Oaks dropped the set 19-25. The third set was yet another tightly contested battle, with Menlo and CSUN tying 10 times with also 5 lead changes. The Oaks would earn their highest hitting percentage in the match with .455 with 12 kills. Despite the valiant effort, CSUN would take the set 22-25. In the fourth and final set, trying to rally back from being 2 sets down, the Oaks would push CSUN to the brink. The Oaks would notch 13 kills but would succumb to the Matador's blocking game, losing a close set 23-25 and the match 1-3.
 
Key Oak Performers
Mustafa Selçuk Uyar delivered an outstanding show, leading Menlo in kills with 18 while also having a .485 hitting percentage. Defensively, Uyar would earn 8 digs and 3 blocks to keep the match as close as possible. William Lawler would dish out an incredible 41 assists as the main setter, coordinating the offense smoothly. Freshman Ty Carson was another Oak that played a pivotal role with 9 kills, 6 digs, and 1 service ace to contribute to Menlo's overall effort.
