Menlo Women’s Volleyball Earns First PacWest Victory in Program History Against Hawaii Pacific

ATHERON, CA – Head Coach Leslie Akeo led Menlo Women's Volleyball to their first victory in the PacWest against the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific University. The Oaks were able to close out a thrilling five-set match with resiliency and grit to come out on top.

WHAT A BATTLE!
Menlo was able to get the start of the match going with a solid first set win. Although starting the set off slow, the Oaks dialed everything in and were able to go on five-point run making it 8-4. After that, Menlo continued their momentum the entire first set and took it 25-18. In the second set, The Oaks were unable to continue the momentum they had in the first set. Trailing behind the Sharks tails the entire set, the Oaks were able to tie the set 12-12, looking as if they finally found their stride again, but the Oaks somehow weren't able to stop the Sharks as they ended the set with 20-25 with a four-kill run. The third set was another point-for-point battle, as the Oaks showcased their resilience and grit in a nail-biting 27-25 win. The set was a pivotal moment in the match, featuring 18 tie scores and 4 lead changes, as both teams fought fiercely for control. Despite Hawaii Pacific's persistent defense, Menlo capitalized on critical errors by the Sharks, which gave Menlo a 2-1 set lead. The fourth set proved to be a challenging one for Menlo as Hawaii Pacific mounted a strong comeback, dominating the Oaks 12-25 to tie the match at two sets a piece going into the final set of the match. The final set was tightly contested from the start, with both teams trading points and momentum. Every point was crucial, and it seemed as if Hawaii Pacific were going to hang on for the win, but the Oaks decided to mount a late comeback to tie the match 13-13. As the match neared its conclusion, Menlo maintained composure under pressure and closed out the match 15-13. This victory was a testament to Menlo's determination and ability to perform in high-pressure situations, solidifying their 3-2 match triumph.
