Menlo Women’s Volleyball Goes the Distance but Falls to Jessup in Five Sets

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball held their home opener in Haynes-Prim Pavilion with an exciting five set matchup against the Jessup Warriors. Menlo sparked huge moments of momentum and put the Warriors on their heels but ultimately fell to Jessup.

HEATED EXCHANGES
The Oaks struggled to find their offense early in the first set as Jessup would go on multiple point runs and took the first set against Menlo 16-25. In the second set, Menlo flipped the script on Jessup as the Oaks got on an early set roll and had an 8-point run making the score 11-3. Menlo was able to hold the lead all the way to the end of the second set and taking it 25-18. In the third set, the Oaks and the Warriors battled with each other, going point for point until Jessup found their rhythm again, taking the third set over the Oaks 17-25. The fourth set was more nail-biting compared to the third! The Oaks and Warriors tied scores seven times and changed leads four times with no clear picture of the set winner. The Oaks were determined to no go quiet, as they fought hard to edge out a 25-22 victory to force a decisive fifth and final set. The final set saw the Warriors take control early, and despite a valiant effort by the Oaks, they were unable to seal the match and fell to Jessup 7-15.

BLOCK PARTY CENTRAL
Hannah Torres and Maya Saole Su'e held a party at the net as both Oaks led the team in blocks with 4 each! Keely Grant joined Torres and Saole Su'e and collected 3 blocks along with 10 kills. Torres also led Menlo in the attack with an astounding 15 kills on the night! Senior Paige Harmann also dished out 34 Assists for her teammates and led the Oaks in digs with 15, with Libero Faith Oller right behind her with 14 digs. Janet Moala also kept momentum for Menlo with 2 service aces! In spite of the loss, the standout performances showed the team promise for the rest of the season.
