Menlo Women’s Volleyball Shows Valiant Effort in Loss to the University of Hawaii at Hilo

HILO, HI – Menlo Women's Volleyball headed to Hilo, Hawaii to take on their second PacWest opponent of the season, the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans. Despite a strong showcase of the Oaks abilities and tactics, Menlo would unfortunately fall to the Vulcans in three sets.

Back-and-Forth Battle for Momentum
In the first set Menlo would rally against Hilo's aggressive offensive play, allowing the Oaks to stay within striking distance and putting the pressure on the Vulcans with solid defensive play. However, the Oaks couldn't edge out the Vulcans and lose the first set 18-25. The second set was a true display of Menlo's tenacity as they pushed Hilo to the limit. Trailing early, the Oaks would fight back and take a mid-set lead 16-14 but couldn't hold on to the end and dropping an exciting set 23-25. Menlo would continue to show how gritty of a program they are in the third set, both teams would compete for momentum as there were multiple lead changes and tied scores, but Hilo would find a late push in the end to close out the match 20-25 in the third set.

Offensive Showcase
On the attacking front Senior Ayanna Barham led the Oaks in kills for the night with 7 as well as 8 digs defensively. Maya Saole-Su'e was right behind Barham in Kills with 6 and hitting for a .417%! Setter Paige Harmann dished out 17 Assists for her teammates and also collected an amazing 6 Service Aces on the evening! Defensively, Libero Faith Oller led the Oaks in digs with an impressive 16 in the match, with Katharine Mumm right behind her with 9! With several standout individual performance and collective team effort, Menlo will continue to build momentum heading into their home opener.
