Menlo Women’s Volleyball Avenges Early Season Loss Against UC Merced in Five Sets

Turlock, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball headed into the second day of the Stan State Volleyball Tournament with a matchup against the UC Merced Bobcats. The Oaks lost to UC Merced 1-3 at the Otter Classic last week, but the Oaks showed yesterday that they approached this weekend with a different attitude.

A Vicious 5 Set Scrap
Menlo was able to start quick which caught the Bobcat defense completely off guard. The Oaks would go on several 3-point runs which gave enough breathing space for the Oaks to close out the first set 25-17. Going into the second set, UC Merced was able to make some tactical changes which gave Menlo hard time to adjust, causing multiple error points and taking the set. With the third set approaching, the Oaks and Bobcats clashed once again going point for point with no true leader. The set had a total 12 lead changes and both teams tied the score 16 times! With the set closing out, the Oaks were able to tie the score 25-25, and then take the lead 26-25, but the Bobcats were able to go on a 3-point swing and take an important set 26-28. Menlo made several changes to their approach in the fourth set. The Oaks once again started the set viciously and obtained an 8-point lead. Then the Bobcats were able to catch up and tie the match 15-15. With several lead changes heading into the final points of the set, Menlo takes a scrappy fourth set 25-23. The final set of the night seemed to be all for the Oaks with a 8-3 lead, but once again they were unable to scare the Bobcats away and tied the match 10-10. Menlo decided to finish the night with a 5-point statement and closed the match winning 3-2!

Harmann Assists Everyone
Paige Harmann once again had another stellar performance on the night as she led the Oaks with 40 assists, 20 digs, and 9 aces! Harmann has over 20 assists in 6 out of the 7 matches that have been played, and has a total 161 assists this season! Hannah Torres once again led Menlo in kills with 18, teammates Maya Saole-Su'e and Giulia Marinelli both collected 9 kills each as well. Defensively, Katharine Mumm had 12 digs along with 6 kills, with libero Kanani Packer accumulating 9 for the night. An outstanding weekend for Menlo as they it seems that they have found their stride and look to keep this momentum into the next match!
