Menlo Women's Volleyball goes 1-1 in the First Day of the Stan State Tournament

Turlock, CA – Menlo Women's Volleyball had a fantastic showing on the first day of the Stan State Volleyball Tournament with matchups against the Chico State Wildcats, and the Stanislaus State Warriors. The Oaks were able to demonstrate resilient and growth in both matches and will look to continue to bring high energy action for tomorrow.

Menlo v Chico State
In their first match of the tournament the Oaks and the Wildcats battled out for the entire 5 sets of the match! The Oaks were able to get the ball rolling quickly and start the match aggressively offensively with 15 kills, and defensively with 6 blocks. Menlo was able to collect the first set with ease as they closed out the score 25-15 taking a 1-0 lead. Then, things started to pick up for Chico State, the Oaks were able to grab and hold onto the lead early all the way up till the Wildcats tied the set 19-19. The wildcats were able to take the lead, but Menlo's offense stepped up in the end with a kill from Jazmyn Tubbs to close out to second set 25-23. In the third set, Chico St was able to obtain an early lead, it seemed as the Oaks were going to able to take the lead late but the Wildcats ended up winning the 3rd set 20-25. The 4th set seemed as if Menlo was able to close out the match with them being able to acquire an early five-point cushion, but the Wildcats were able to catch up and keep pace all towards the last couple of points of the set. With Menlo at match point, the Wildcats happened to tie the match, and end up taking the lead, winning a thrilling set 25-27 going into the final set. In the final set, Menlo was able to control the pace of the match from the start, and finished the set 15-10 and closing out the match.
Menlo's offensive on fire statistically for this matchup. Hannah Torres was able to lead Oaks in kills with 22 for the match. Multiple Oaks provided pivotal points during the five-set match. Giulia Marinelli, Ayanna Barham, and Jazmyn Tubbs all provided a very impressive 10+ kills each. Paige Harmann was the main setter for Oaks, as she provided a spectacular 49 Assists for team, while also collecting 17 digs. Defensively, both of our liberos were important components with Kanani Packer accumulated 12 digs, and Faith Oller gathered 16 digs. Maya Saole-Su'e was able to snag 4 total blocks along with Marinelli as well. Despite the match going to five sets, the Oaks showed a lot adversity and was able to come out on top against a very tough Chico St.
 

Menlo v Stanislaus State
For their second match of the night, Menlo faced a very tough 5-0 Stanislaus State Warriors, again going to For the first set, the Oaks were just unable to get something going. The Warriors were able to go on several multiple-point runs and claimed the set 19-25. The second set was a different story, The Oaks were able to take the lead early on, as soon as they took the lead, they went on a 6-point run which provided a comfortable cushion for them to take the second set 25-20. The Warriors were able to get their offense going early as Menlo was close multiple times to tie the set, but the Warriors were able hold a lead all the way to make the game 1-2 in favor of Stanislaus St. The fourth and final set was the most exciting of all. The Oaks and the Warriors were able to go back-and-forth with both teams going on multiple point runs. It came down to the wire with no one really knowing who was going to take the set. The Warriors were able to take the lead in and close out the match in a thrilling 28-30 final set.
 
Freshman Avery Krebill stepped up for the Oaks and led the team with a splendid 14 kills for the match, teammate Katharine Mumm also assisted Menlo with 1 kills, and led the team in digs with 17 on the night. Paige Harmann performed outstanding once again and dished out 26 assists to the team and also performed well defensively with 16 digs. Faith Oller was the main libero for the match making crucial saves to keep the Oaks in the match, collecting 16 digs. Menlo was able to showcase a lot of heart and resilience as they battled against both teams they played against today and look to carry that energy into tomorrow's match.
