Atherton, CA-After a few tough outings, Menlo Baseball was able to get back on track with two straight victories against Bethesda University! Menlo's offense found its groove scoring 19 total runs across two outings including multiple grand slams and homeruns! The Oaks offense has been a strong point for the team all year and hopefully can carry this momentum into tomorrow's double header against Bethesda.
Game One: Menlo 13, Bethesda 3
In the first game against Bethesda, Menlo managed to score 13 runs thanks to the explosive bats DJ Scott and Ethan Baird! Scott was an offense unto himself as he posted three hits, five RBIs, three runs while hitting a grand slam, triple and a double. The Fairfield native was a single away from hitting for the cycle! Ethan Baird added four RBIs as well with a grand slam in the eighth inning to push the Oaks lead to 13-0. Justin Flannery was also a force for Menlo's offense, scoring three runs while driving in two thanks to a homerun at the top of the eighth inning.
On the mound Frank Grant was dominant shutting out Bethesda during seven innings of pitching. Grant tossed 88 pitches that would result in 10 strikeouts and only a single walk. In the second, third, sixth and seventh innings Grant would retire the side in order. Grant has strung together multiple strong outings all year but today may be the highlight on a great first season as an Oak!
Game Two: Menlo 6, Bethesda 2
The second game of the day was once again highlighted by DJ Scott doing a little bit of everything for the Oaks. He chipped in two hits, two RBIs while also stealing a base early in the game to get himself into scoring position. Scott injected a lethal dose of offense into the Oaks lineup and Bethesda had no answer. Designated hitter Sage Pera also put together a strong showing in the batter's box with two RBIs in the first inning to give the Oaks a lead they would never relinquish. Lastly, starting catcher Jake Koeper added his first homerun of the season to his resume that resulted in Menlo's final two RBIs of the day!
Up Next…
The Oaks will get back on Cartan tomorrow for another two games against Bethesda. This is a prime opportunity for Menlo to string together a couple wins and make a late season push in front of their home crowd!
