Baseball Completes Four Game Sweep Against Bethesda with 2-0 Saturday

Atherton, CA-Menlo Baseball picked up right where they left off yesterday facing off against Bethesda University for another two games out at Cartan Field. Just like yesterday both games would be a showcase of Menlo's offensive capabilities with multiple players racking up plenty of hits and a handful of great defensive highlights as well!

Game One: Menlo 13, Bethesda 6

The Oaks wasted no time getting their offensive firepower back to the forefront after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning. Senior Sage Pera would do what he does best and launch a homerun over the left field fence to drive in two RBIs and give the Oaks a lead they would never relinquish. Soon after, second baseman Carter Harris got in on the high scoring exploits with a homerun of his own in the bottom of the second inning with runners on the corners. His three run shot would see Menlo push their lead to three. The high flying hits would not stop with DJ Scott going yard in the bottom of the fifth leading to an Oaks 6-2 lead. Yet Bethesda would not back down, scoring four unanswered runs between the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game. Unfortunately for the visiting team the eighth inning would be an absolute showcase of batting prowess in favor of the Oaks. Menlo would score seven unanswered runs to close out the game with a 13-6 victory. For the game Menlo recorded 15 hits, three home runs and drew seven walks.

Game Two: Menlo 9, Bethesda 4

The second game of the day would only be seven innings but that did not stop Menlo from putting up another nine runs. This time Justin Flannery and Sage Pera would lead the charge from the batter's box. Flannery posted a game high three hits going three for three during his at-bats while also driving in a run and even getting hit by a pitch to get on base. Pera once again was in a groove with another home run that would drive in three runs at the bottom of the fourth. He also drew two walks showcasing the seniors' poise at the plate. On the mound Menlo's pitchers were also dialed in, particularly the pair of relievers, Sam Grannes and Ellis Jensen. This duo would pitch four innings out of seven not walking a single batter and only allowing three hits.

Up Next…

The Oaks will look to carry this four game winning streak into their upcoming series against OUAZ down in Arizona. Menlo has struggled in conference play but has recently played well against both Hope International and Bethesda. This should set Menlo up nicely to give the Spirit all they can handle down in the desert!
