Menlo Returns Home with a 2-2 Series Tie Against OUAZ Spirit

Surprise, AZ-The Oaks wrap up a critical late game series with a 2-2 series tie while down in Surprise, Arizona. The Oaks spent most of the series generating solid offensive outputs and will look to close out GSAC play against Jessup back home next week.

Game One: Menlo 1, OUAZ 16

Game one saw Menlo get off to a slow start offensively with only four hits. Starting right fielder Justin Flannery has continued his strong first season in an Oaks jersey. After his solo home run today he has pushed his batting average up to .292 for the year and four home runs on the season. Flannery has now recorded a hit in seven of his last eight appearances and is proving to be a top tier addition to the Oaks lineup!

Game Two: Menlo 7, OUAZ 10

The second game of the day also saw Menlo get off to a slow start that had the Oaks trailing by as much as eight runs heading into the final inning of play. With the score 2-10 the Oaks locked in as they attempted a furious comeback highlighted by clutch hitting late in the ball game. Freshman catcher Christian Luevano got things started with a double out to left center to score the first run of the rally. In what was only his third hit of the season it proved to b a huge spark that the team desperately needed. Jonathan Charbonea followed up his freshman teammate with an even bigger hit that resulted in a triple that would see an additional three runs scored. With the score now 6-10 the Oaks would get one final run on the board thanks to another RBI by the ever steady Sage Pera. Unfortunately, Menlo's rally would fall just short by a final score of 7-10. Yet, the team showed a level of fight that should help spark the teams next matchup against the highly touted Jessup Warriors.

Up Next…

The final GSAC series of the year is now on deck with the seventh ranked Jessup Warriors coming to town. The Oaks have played some of their best baseball this year over the past few weeks. They may face an uphill battle but do not underestimate coach Alex Hoover's squad!
