Oaks Can’t Complete Comeback Falling to HIU 5-11

Atherton, CA-With the weather being unpredictable throughout the weekend, Menlo Baseball was able to get a full nine innings in today beating out the rain. Unfortunately, the 16th ranked Royals were able to hold off a Menlo rally and escape Atherton with a win.

A Handful of Solid Outings

The final score did not fall in favor of the Oaks but there were some solid individual showings throughout the lineup. Third baseman Sean Pettener led the Oaks offense on the day with a game high three hits. Not only did he secure three hits during his four at-bats but he also drew a walk to ensure he got on base during all his opportunities. He even added a stolen base and scored a run to complete a very complete outing from the Oaks third baseman.

Alongside Pettener the pair of Justin Flannery and Jayshuan Wise also put together good offensive outings. Flannery drove in two RBI's, the first coming on a walk with the bases loaded to get Menlo on the board. In the seventh inning he would also score the Oaks last run of the day with a perfectly placed sacrifice fly to drive in Zach Dyer. He also stole a base as well. Meanwhile, Wise had three at-bats and, similar to Pettener, made the most out of all three attempts. He drew one walk while adding two hits to his resume. He also added to RBI's to round out Menlo's scoring for the day.

Up Next…

Hopefully the weather will begin to turn into more favorable conditions. The team will next take the field for a four game series against Bethesda University from April 5th through April 6th. This will mark a good opportunity for the Oaks to get back in the win column and potentially jumpstart a winning streak.
