Frant Grant Found His Control
Menlo Baseball held the #16 nationally ranked Royals to a competitive match up on Friday despite the unfavorable weather. Frank Grant, a junior transfer from Las Vegas, Nevada, started on the mound for Menlo for his 7th appearance of the season. Grant went 7.2 innings pitched only allowing 3 hits against. The one earned run was a solo homerun hit by Hope in the 2nd inning. But from there on Frank was earning his ground balls and flyouts to get Menlo through a very strong team.Frank has 23 strikeouts now on the season which is the second most on the Oaks pitching staff, just behind Cody Carson who has 31. Nicholas Liechty would close out the last 1.1 innings and allow two more runs to score off of two hits.
Menlo was able to earn 3 hits off of Seeley across the 9 innings played. Carter Harris was the first to get something going at the plate in the 4th inning. Harris laid down a textbook bunt single up the left field line to make it on base. Another hit would come off of Erik Quinzon's bat in the 6th inning and would eventually advance to second base after a failed pick off attempt. Carter Harris was then walked in the same inning but no other Oaks were able to bring them home. One final push would come in the 7th inning when Ethan Baird singled up the middle but none would follow. There were some sparks throughout the day but the Royals pulled off the shutout in the end.
