GLENDALE, AZ. – Menlo Baseball completed their trip to Arizona with a doubleheader at Greenway High School under the lights. Last night the Firestorm won by a slim 8-10 victory but not before the Oaks had a late 8th inning rally to make it exciting. The ball games looked exactly the same with high score lines and close innings. In the end, the Firestorm defended their home ground and swept the Oaks. Menlo will return home for a Bay Area series showdown against Jessup next weekend!
Game 1: Menlo 14 - 17 Arizona Christian
Batters on both sides of the plate were having a day during game one having earned 36 total hits between the Firestorm and the Oaks. Menlo totaled 17 hits and were able to produce 14 runs scored. Even though Menlo's offense was on point, the FIrestorm's bats were just as aggressive and outscored Menlo by 3 runs. The game started and ended with home runs from Sage Pera who went 3 for 5, batted 5 runners in, was walked once, and scored 2 runs himself. Jonathan Charboneau and Jayshaun Wise also hit it out of the park today, each earning their second of the season. Dj Scott also had a productive day at the plate having gone 1.000 with 4 at-bats adding 2 RBI and 3 runs scored for Menlo. There were still some great takeaways for the Oaks from game one having gone on many great rallies in the box, but the Firestorm found a way to earn the victory and send things into the final game of the series.
Game 2: Menlo 0 - 13 Arizona Christian
Not much was produced on the Menlo side in game two as the Firestorm was able to close the game in a shutout. Menlo earned two hits across the 7 innings played coming from Sage Pera and Zach Dyer. Pera was up in the 1st innings with two outs and doubled to left center field but did not build anything else from there. Dyer would then single through the left side in the 3rd inning to end in no runs scored. 3 Oak pitchers made an appearance at the mound in game two and were able to add 9 strikeouts across 33 at-bats.
