GLENDALE, AZ – It was the Oak's first time under the lights this season! Menlo Baseball is at Greenway High School this weekend for their GSAC series against the Firestorm of Arizona Christian which features late start times to play under the stadium lights. The Oaks went scoreless until the 7th inning when Menlo scored a whopping 5 runs to flip the script. Despite Menlo hitters showing fight and belief, they were unable to outscore the Firestorm in a tight race ending in a 6-10 score.
Wise Hits Yard!
The Oaks gave up a 0-9 deficit going into the 7th inning before Menlo batters really got things going at the plate. A Jonathan Charboneau walk and a single through the right side from Ethan Baird put two Oaks on base in scoring position. Jayshaun Wise took the opportunity and singled through the left side to bring in Charboneau and advance Baird to third for Menlo's first score of the game. Momentum kept rolling as Jake Koeper took a pitch to the arm and loaded the bases. The next two Oak runs would come after an RBI walk from Justin Flannery and Carter Harris taking a pitch to the helmet, advancing another run home. DJ Scott continued the slug fest with a single to the first baseman to score Anderson, who pinch ran for Koeper, and inch closer in the score. The Oaks fifth run of the day came off of Sage Pera's bat with a fielder's choice to score and Flannery.
The final three runs would be from solo home runs from Jayshaun Wise in the 8th followed by DJ Scott and Sage Pera in the 9th. Jayshaun has been productive at the plate even while battling injury throughout this season. The sophomore transfer has appeared in 11 games and has totaled 10 hits, including a double, 9 runs scored, and 4 RBI. Wise can now add a homerun to the list! Even though Menlo was feeling themselves in the end of the game, the Firestorm would finish strong and take the victory, 8-10.
