Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Drew Barton

Men’s Basketball Remains in Playoff Hunt with 84-74 Win Over Vanguard

Atherton, CA-In what was a key "revenge game" for Menlo Men's Basketball the team would find a way to secure a 10 point victory over the visiting Vanguard Lions. In their last matchup, down in southern California, the Oaks struggled to close out the game which resulted in the Lions pulling off a come from behind victory. This time the results would be much different with Menlo jumping out to a 7-0 lead and never looking back.

Landon Seaman's Masterclass

A few weeks ago the Lions were able to do what most teams have failed to this year, slowdown Landon Seaman. For that game the Oaks starting center was held to a season low eight points and only seven rebounds. He also fouled out of that contest in an overall frustrating outing. Needless to say, history would not repeat itself. In what was arguably the best game of not just this season but his college career, Seaman dominated from the opening tip to the closing minutes. In 33 minutes of playing time he scored a season high 35 points, grabbed a season high 16 rebounds and shot a blistering 71% from the floor. The fans inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion are witnessing a season for the record books. Seaman has now scored 20 or more points 13 times this year, in fact he has scored in double figures in all but one game. Vanguard challenged the big fella and he answered the call without hesitation.

Ryan & Williams Round Out the Offense

While 35 points from Seaman obviously stole the show, the pair of Patrick Ryan and Kaito Williams would show up in big moments for the Oaks. Ryan was a force on the glass all night long with 11 rebounds to give him a double-double. Not only did he constantly crash the glass but his defense on some of Vanguards top scoring options was huge all game long. Williams quietly chipped in 13 points, good for second most for Menlo. Yet, his biggest plays came as a distributor and defender. Williams would secure two big steals and make outstanding reads as a passer to find a cutting Nick High and Patrick Ryan to secure points for the Oaks. His feed to Kareem Rowe early in the game resulted in one of the top highlights of the night with Rowe slamming a huge dunk.

Up Next…

Menlo will have another chance at some revenge with Hope International set to come to Haynes-Prim Pavilion this Saturday. On the road Menlo fell by a four point margin 72-76. After a big win at home and a strong showing by multiple individuals, the boys and coach Rooney are primed to secure another win and continue their climb up the GSAC standings.
