Atherton, CA-The GSAC has been nothing short of an all out brawl when it comes to men's basketball with every single team liable to defeat another on any given night. As has been the case for the Oaks much of this year, the game would come down to a few finals seconds and the last shot. Unfortunately, the potential game winner would miss by the slimmest of margins as the Royals hold on to defeat Menlo 56-58.
A Pair of Upperclassmen Shoulder the Load
The Royals are a defensive minded, grind out possessions type of team. They love to focus on limiting teams offensive actions and found success in doing so against the Oaks. Still, the pair of Landon Seaman and Kaito Williams were able to generate enough offense to keep Menlo in the game. Williams would be the lone senior honored on Senior Day for the Oaks and he made sure to make the most of it. He hit a game high four threes, scored 16 points and made some key plays on defense. His two steals led to great opportunities on offense for the Oaks. With the game clock expiring Williams would get one last shot at a potential game winner. It was a great shot that would rattle out of the rim as the buzzer sounded. Despite the outcome, Williams' performance was a key reason Menlo was in position to win the game in the first place.
Landon Seaman submitted just a casual 16 points to go along with 11 rebounds. After his explosive performance against Vanguard earlier this week it seemed almost impossible for the big man to follow up such a big game. While it was not 35 points it was still a strong showing for a player that has planted himself firmly into the discussion of best player in the conference. Mark this down as six double-doubles in his last seven games.
Up Next…
Next on the docket is a huge road trip up north to take on Jessup University. Menlo got the better of the Warriors earlier this year with a 23 point victory at home. In that matchup it would actually be Seaman and Williams who once again shouldered a large portion of the scoring load. Seaman would post 26 points with 14 rebounds. Williams scored 17 points alongside two steals and five made threes. Another big game in the GSAC is now on deck for what should be a great battle of northern California rivals.
