Santa Clarita, CA-In their final regular season game Menlo Men's Basketball took on the 20th ranked team in the nation, the Mustangs from The Master's. As has been the case in almost all of the teams games this year it was a back and forth affair with the game coming down to only a few possessions. Regardless, the boys have secured a playoff bid and will look to keep their season alive during the GSAC Conference Tournament.
Blackwell & High Leave It All On the Court
Eric Blackwell and Nick High were instrumental in keeping the Oaks in the game with timely shot making and rebounding throughout their time on the court. Blackwell emerged as a viable three level scoring threat throughout the game including hitting two shots from behind the arc despite defensive pressure from the Mustangs. Blackwell also converted a great "and-1" attempt off a smooth drive to the right side of the basket. Meanwhile Nick High did a little bit of everything for the Oaks while playing a game high 37 minutes. High scored 13 points but the manner of said points were impressive. He put constant pressure on the rim both while driving and crashing the offensive glass. High is one of the more explosive pliers for the Oaks and he leveraged his leaping ability into second chance putbacks. He also did a great job rebounding the ball with eight boards including a handful of impressive ones that highlighted his athleticism and sheer competitiveness.
Up Next…
Menlo wraps up the regular season 19-8, good for a 70% winning percentage. Thankfully, the season is far from over with the GSAC Tournament now on deck. The conference was filled with parity as any given team could beat one another on any given night. With the journey to 20 plus wins still very much alive, not only will the Oaks look to contend for a conference banner but also have an eye on the NAIA National Tournament.
