Oaks Softball Splits Saturday Round-Robin with Victory Over Yotes and Loss to Simpson

LINCOLN, CA – Menlo Softball spent one more day at Whitney High School for one more round-robin, revisiting the College of Idaho Yotes and facing off Simpson for the first time this season. In the morning, the Oaks pulled off a 2-1 win over the Yotes which must have felt great after taking a loss to them just the day before. The afternoon game against Simpson ended in favor of the Redhawks by a score of 0-7. Menlo will return home to Atherton for one more doubleheader taking place at Wunderlich Field on Sunday!

Game 1: Menlo 2 - 1 College of Idaho

Scoring began early in game one on Saturday after both teams were able to add their first runs to the board after the 1st inning. Aliya Lubrin led off the inning with a single down the right field line. Lubrin would then steal second off of an Oak strikeout to put a runner in scoring position for Bella Cortez who has already had a fantastic weekend. Cortez singled to left field to advance Aliya and put runners at first and third. Cortez was caught in a pickle which allowed Lubrin to steal home and even the score at 1-1. The go-ahead run would come in the 3rd inning after Alexandra Attard made it to first after being hit by a pitch. Jolena Velasquez laid the sacrifice bunt down to advance Attard to second. Emma Medina hit it to the fence with a triple to left field to score Attard and give Menlo the lead, 2-1. The Oaks were able to hold off the Yotes from scoring anymore runs and closed the game in 7 innings.

Shelby White completed a full game against College of Idaho and struck 4 Yotes out while only allowing 2 hits. This will account for Shelby's second win of the season and first complete game!

Game 2: Menlo 0 - 7 Simpson

The Redhawks showed up ready to compete against the Oaks in game two of the round-robin. Menlo was unable to get a rally going with Simpson only allowing 3 hits against while the Redhawks totaled 12 hits over the Oaks. 2 of the 3 hits came from center fielder Aliya Lubrin who also stole 4 bases between the two games today. Emma Medina was the other Oak to add a hit against Simpson. Vivian Valencia did not start in the circle today, however she did total 5 strikeouts over the Redhawks in 2.2 innings pitched.
