Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Drew Barton

#6 Menlo Picks Up Decisive Win Against #7 Benedictine Mesa 3-1

Atherton, CA-Menlo Men's Volleyball has played a tough non-conference schedule so far this season having already played three nationally ranked opponents while in Ohio. Today marked arguably the biggest matchup for the Oaks this season with the 7th ranked Redhawks coming to town for a showdown with coach Hollenbeck's 6th ranked team. After four sets, Menlo emerged victorious including two sets in which the Oaks held the Redhawks to under 20 points. With the non-conference portion of the scheduled now wrapped up, the boys will next head to Arizona later this week for matches against OUAZ and Arizona Christian to begin GSAC play!

Konrad Stoklosinski is the King of the 4th

As has been the case for his Menlo career, Konrad Stoklosinski was one of the driving forces of the Oaks offensive attack. His 19 kills would be tied for a game high and he once again was incredibly efficient hitting .576 for the night. Yet, the highlight of the seniors day came during the fourth set. With Menlo looking to put the proverbial "nail in the coffin", it would be Stoklosinski that would hammer said nail into place. In the last frame of play Stoklosinski led the way with six kills and four service aces. In fact, points 18 through 20 for the Oaks came on three consecutive service aces from the reigning All-American. Through the first nine games of the season he is now up to 123 kills and 12 aces. As it stands the Polish standout may be tracking towards another award filled season.

International Oaks Bring the Firepower

Alongside their star outside hitter, the duo of Julius Stiemer and Wojciech Nowak were also locked in from the opening serve. Despite Stiemer returning as a member of last year's All-Conference team it seems the sophomore has taken his game to another level. Stiemer matched Stoklosinski with 19 kills and hit .429 across all four sets. His ability to provide another offensive weapon gives coach Hollenbeck a deadly duo outside. Meanwhile, freshman Wojciech Nowak has made the seamless transition to the college game. He submitted another well rounded box score of 11 kills, four assists and 15 digs. At this rate, Nowak could follow in Stiemer's footsteps as the second Oaks freshman to make a push for an All-Conference nod in his first season inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion!

Up Next…

Conference play is now upon the team with a road trip to Arizona on deck. The Oaks will open up against the pair of OUAZ and Arizona. The GSAC is arguably the most talented conference in the nation when it comes to Men's Volleyball. Currently, The Master's, Vanguard and OUAZ all reside within the NAIA's top five. Early in the season Arizona Christian and Hope International were also receiving votes towards a top 15 ranking as well. With an 8-1 record and multiple top 15 wins on their resume already, Menlo is primed to make a push into the nations top five!
