HAYWARD, CA – Menlo Baseball completed their series against Cal State East Bay with a final single-game of the weekend. The Oaks fell to the Pioneers by a score of 1-5. Menlo Baseball has had a competitive preseason with two of the three opponents being Division II foes. This level of competition is a great way to get prepared for some GSAC matchups beginning next week after one more faceoff with DII opponent, Sonoma State!
Dyer Scores Late Run
Cal State East Bay was able to build up a 4-0 lead over Menlo after the 4th inning. The Oaks were able to hold the Pioneers from scoring until the 8th inning after a homerun from O'Mahony. Menlo's lone run scored came in the 6th when Zach Dyer opened the inning with a single to the shortstop. Zach Dyer went 3-3 earning 3 of the 10 total Oak hits of the day. Two fly outs put pressure on Sean Pettener to do a job in which he was able to get the ball in play and force a fielding error from the 1st baseman and advance Dyer. With two Oaks on base, Justin Flannery successfully singled up the middle to bring Zach home and tally his 5th RBI of the season.
Menlo pitched three different pitchers against the Pioneers on Sunday. Starting on the mound was Chase Barsotti who was credited with the loss. Barsotti went 6 innings pitched and totaled 6 strikeouts and 2 walks. Nicholas Liechty came in and pitched for an inning and added a strikeout and 0 runs against. Sam Grannes was put in to close the game out.
